Essential Oils for Sleep & Pregnancy Stress

 

Lavender….is there anything it can’t do?  It smells phenomenal and helps put you in the Zen zone while performing a slew of skin soothing benefits.  I even put it in my laundry!  What’s not to love?

 

I could write multiple posts on how to use this essential oil, but since we are on the topic of aromatherapy this week, I’m going to keep it brief for you busy Moms and only focus on the breathable benefits.

Lavender is a great go-to when it comes to emotional stress, insomnia and anxiety.  The scent is soothing and calming immediately upon inhalation.  This makes it a great go-to for nighttime and bouts of horm-otional attacks. (Yeah, I feel you there….)

 

In fact, the International Journal of Psychiatry in Clinical Practice found that regular usage can “alleviate anxiety, sleep disturbance and depression.” All of this without of the harmful sign effects of drugs. You can read Dr. Axe’s take here, where he cites a few other studies where it aided in postpartum depression, Alzheimers relief and other amazing medical studies.

 

The bottom line is it is worth the try, right?

 

How to Use

 

You can mix a few drops with a couple mL’s of carrier oil (like Sweet Almond oil) and administer with the use of a roll on, which is very economical.

 

Simply apply oil to temples, under nose, behind ears, along spine, behind ears…. You can even apply it to the bottom of your baby’s feet to aid in their own sleep.  It won’t keep them sleeping, but will help lull them into their regular nighttime sleep.

 

One of my favorite bedtime rituals is to put Lavender in a diffuser, which I keep on my bedside table.  I keep one in my daughter’s room to help her calm down and get into the sleepy time zone at night.
